Our Story:
Starting in 2017, FRC Team 272 partnered with 3 local grade schools, Mary Mother of the Redeemer (MMR), St. Jude and Mater Dei to offer FIRST Lego (FLL) programs to students in 4th to 8th grade. Each year we continue to welcome students.  Our FLL participants now come from Catholic schools, public schools, charter schools, and homeschooled students. FLL students are guided by two or more adult Coaches, as well as an LC student mentor to research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, and program a robot using the LEGO® Education SPIKE Prime Set™, then compete on a table-top playing field. Along their journey, they develop critical thinking and team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and even presentation skills, as they must present their solutions with a dash of creativity to judges. They also practice the Program’s Core Values, which emphasize discovery, teamwork and good sportsmanship.

FTC (First Tech Challenge) is open to students from 7th to 12th grade (the registration form says 7th to 9th). If a student is entering 9th grade at LC, we encourage them to join our H.S. First Robotics Team. However, if a non-LC student would like to join the FTC team, they are welcomed up to 12th grade. The team typically meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30 - 8:30, and sometimes on weekends leading up to a competition. Competitions are scheduled in the late winter, early Spring. We will ask the coach to touch base with the team families for the best competition dates and locations before registering a team. *Coaches needed, no experience necessary!
